Everyone can agree that a lot has changed in the past 2 years. And, we all can equally find a silver lining in the new normal that we have had to come to embrace. In celebration of the New Year and to join together in the humanness that is the pandemic, we wanted to share some more comical outcomes that our team has experienced in this new normal.
The Case of the Lost Keys
As a widely remote team, we cover a large geographical region in the United States & Globally. If we’re not careful, we could easily go weeks without leaving our home, while we’re on Zoom meetings and conferences with our clients. So, when one of our team members shared her weekly challenge of not being able to find her car keys, we all had a belly laugh. Because when your work-life balance has been reduced to sitting upstairs in your office or lounging downstairs on the couch, it’s very easy to constantly misplace your keys EVERY week!
Mysterious Hand Cramps
When’s the last time you had to write something on paper? If you’re like many adults who have been relegated to work from home, it may have been months… or over a year! Yikes! That’s why writing out those Christmas cards, jotting down directions, or otherwise exploring the almost extinct pen and paper adventure has been met with mysterious hand cramps. If you’ve experienced these, then you know what we mean. If you haven’t, then consider yourself lucky! Because they’re the “Charlie Horses” of our hands and they’re another reminder that we need to pick up the pen more often and close the computer!
Bringing Beards Back
Beards are definitely back in style now, more than ever, especially for our CEO, Lynn’s husband! While many of us may be long overdue for a trim, complete haircut, good shave, and a day of spa pampering – we’ve had to make do. From unkempt heads, to overgrown facial hair, to home hair dying experiments, we have to be thankful for the “Turn Camera Off” feature on our virtual meetings :)
New Social Awkwardness
Humans are some of the most social creatures on the planet. So, as we’ve had to adapt to living in a virtual world, it can feel very overwhelming to go back into crowds or networking events. Our team has all experienced their own version of ‘overstimulation’ that seems to be happening now as we transition to our new normal. Lynn, normally an extrovert who loves talking to people, noticed that during her first few in-person gatherings that interacting with those at the event seemed harder to do than usual. In the same way that we had to adapt to fit our temporary Zoom lifestyles, we’ll have to give ourselves some time to adjust back to in-person engagements.
These are just a few of our “new normal” stories that have created a few chuckles in our weekly team meetings. What have you noticed as you transition into this new space? Are there funny mishaps that you’ll always remember (or not remember like the car keys)? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
